Stem Cells

The Promise and the Problem

Stem Cells hold great promise for the cure of numerous diseases.

A Stem Cell is an immature cell that can be teased into any of the other basic cell types. This is because the cell has not differentiated. Once a cell has differentiated, it is no longer a complete being, but only part of being.

Remember, every cell contains the entire DNA code for the specific individual. After differentiation, most of the DNA is suppressed.

There are three main sources for stem cells.

Embryonic stem Cells

Adult Stem Cells

Cord Blood Stem Cells

Note: Sex cells are differentiated cells that contain only a half strand of DNA.
